The Art Exchange

First up is the finished piece that I’ve been posting sneaks at:

Okay. So, again with the background that isn’t an actual background that I didn’t paint first. One of these days, I’ll attempt to do a painting the right way (and by that, I mean in a manner that doesn’t make me pitch a fit like a five-year old because I’m having to repaint the figure because the background colours overlapped).

The armour is a new thing for me. I fully admit that I do the 90′s superhero thing when it comes to the costuming of the figures in my work (i.e. everyone’s wearing spandex!), and that’s something I’m hoping to work on this year. Decided to get a little out of my league and give her a plated armour look. Blame it on the hours spent playing Dragon Age: Origins (which is never going to get old) and Assassin’s Creed, but that’s what I decided I should try. Got a teensy bit fancy with the silver ink swirly details just to break up the colours and add a little texture.

The face. I botched big time. And I’ll just leave it at that.

Now for the awesome part!

I did the exchange with a wonderful artist I met through Twitter, who also just happened to have an Etsy shop – Karla from HeartSizedCrush! Seriously, you need to check her shop out because she has some hot items in there. She not only exchanged that super sexy, hand casted/painted skull on the left, but also casted a blank one for me to paint myself! How frakking boss is she?

Meeting up with Karla again and doing this exchange was a great end to this holiday season. I hope everyone else had a good one, too!
